How long should an awards ceremony last?

A short night with empty moments can seem long. A long night with a clear rhythm may seem short. The useful question is not “how many minutes?”. It’s “how long will this room stay with us?”.

Start with who is sitting

A guest who came for an award may get tired sooner than someone who came for the entire evening. Decide what the room came to see and build the night around that. The night seems shorter when every moment has a purpose.

Count the awards

Give time to the moments the room came to see. A long list is not, in itself, a problem. A list without rhythm is. A very long list in one evening requires its own plan: how can hundreds of awards fit into one night.

In Oeiras, the city council's own team presented 340 awards in 1 hr 30 min. It is a measured night, not a duration to copy. Working hours were not measured there.

Protect what you can't rush

Decide which moments are not cut. If the night is late, cut elsewhere. Don't cut what the room came for.

Tell the time of the speeches

Tell each speaker how much time they have. Tell the recipients before the night that a short thank you is appreciated. Give this instruction to the host. A calm host closes a long speech with a warm phrase.

Take a break if the night is long

A pause lets the room move and talk. It also gives the team a moment to look at the plan.

Time it at rehearsal

An estimate on paper is a guess. Your list, your room and your plan will differ. Time a section with actual times and write the cutoff rule before the night. running order to an awards ceremony deals with that rule.

Duration is in running order

The duration depends on the number of awards, the time of each walk and what is cut in the speeches. All of this is in running order, along with presences and places.

If the cut is decided before the night, it is applied once and the room sees the new version. If it is decided in the host's ear, each block will have a different duration. Eventblox® links applications, attendance, places and running order. Prepare is that work.

Decide what the room came to see. Give time to key moments. Time yourself in rehearsal. Write the cutting rule before night.
